How do you install spectrwm 2.1.1?

Hey guys, I have been messing around with spectrwm for the past few days and love it.

I would like to update to 2.1.1 but I'm not sure how. I am currently on version 1.0.0.

Could anyone walk me through it?

I've not run a Debian-based distro in a few months now, so take my advice with a few pinches of salt.
The basic dependencies should've been settled when you installed (via apt, I assume) version 1.0.0

As for the xlib/xcb dependencies, see here:

Now extract the spectrwm-2.1.1.tgz and cd into the /linux folder

Then run the usual

make

Following that, assuming there are no errors reported, run

sudo make install

If you do get error messages running make, report them here (paste the output if possible) and I'm sure there'll be someone around to assist you in due time.

Gutterslob's steps seem right (I also haven't run Debian since forever, so take my advice with a grain of salt too) but I'd use sudo checkinstall -D make install instead of sudo make install.

What this does is create a regular Debian package, which can be tracked by apt-get and everything. I think that's way cleaner than using regular make. You do need to install checkinstall, though.

gutterslob's quick howto is accurate.

The default spectrwm.conf - and spectrwm_us.conf (for key bindings) will be located in: <build_directory>/spectrwm

There are some changes, so you'll want to update your configuration files.
