I find most .mp4 and .mkv vids use a hell of alot of resources, is that what you're watching? If so there's not alot you can do about it afaik. I reencode them to xvid/mp3 and they use 1/10th the resources.

I've made an interactive bash script to do a two pass encoding of a vid file to xvid/mp3. Change to the directory the vid is in and run it. You'll have to grab the shell-colors script from my github bin repo too and save it as ~/.shell-colors or edit the dubb-ffmeg to point to where you saved it.

Full-screen video is known to be choppy with Intel 915GM. (Google "Intel 915GM choppy video linux" if you don't believe me.)
Here is a chart comparing performance of 915GM to typical hardware:

I recommend to upgrade your hardware if this is to be your primary multimedia/video/movie computer. In the meantime, moetunes has an excellent suggestion to convert the videos to a less demanding format.

for youtube videos you can try using html5 instead of flash, it should spare some resources...subscribe here....

Its mainly youtube videos im watching, i oped in to html5 and it did'nt seem to make a difference. The strange thing is my CPU is maxing out when watching but my RAM is only hitting at most 300mb out of the 2gb of RAM. I do have 1.18gb in swap but its never been used, its been at 0% since the start.

interesting i am using old dell gx260- p4 2,00,512ddrram, 40gb hdd, geforcefx5200 its working like a charm.

lol, so what did you do that im missing.

^ tatlisub has a much better video card; that is the difference.
As I mentioned in your other thread, RAM usage is irrelevant in this case; the bottleneck is your lack of video card, which is maxing out your CPU. Adding more RAM will not solve this problem.
Here are the minimum hardware specs for Adobe Flash Player: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplay … specs.html
If you upgrade to a system that exceeds these minimums, then you will have much smoother Adobe Flash playback.

I never watch youtube vids in the browser. I use movgrab to download them and watch them locally, which might be solution to your lacking hardware problem.

Ok, is there any way to lower resolution or graphics driver updates or anything like that, that could help this situation...

I have an even cheaper version of the laptop you have and can tell you that flash performance is world's better in XP than in linux. If all you do is watch videos and browse the web, then grab a serial off of one of the computers laying around and install XP. Your stated needs don't really require linux.
You don't need to ask for a fix to your video card repetitively. It's been stated in the thread more than once that it's the device and not the driver. It's the world's cheapest and worst video device made for it's time. There is no magic update that removes the craptacular from it and pulls performance from thin air, installing it in the hidden "extra fancy driver" pocket that the intel card sports.
I have long ago come to accept that when you buy a discount computer, you get a discount computer. Embrace all that it entails.
