Does increasing the time for screensaver to tick in help?
I.e., settings -> screensaver. Your solution might be
to turn off hibernation. Does locking the screen before
it sleeps help?

Perhaps you need poweroff or halt, (not quite sure what you are asking for).
Maybe you want screen locking.

Sorry, I think you have misunderstood - poweroff, shutdown & halt are linux commands.
A screensaver only blanks the screen whilst you are away from your computer to stop prying eyes seeing what you are up to, it can be set up so that a password is needed to unlock it.

hmm... nice.
so there is no way to poweroff a computer with an attached screensaver-command?

Not that I know of, however, you may be able to use 'acpi' settings to get what you want.
All I can suggest is to take a look at that. It is what puts a computer into standby mode, maybe it can be made to poweroff after a set idle time.

why incorporate a screensaver if the goal is to just shutdown. If you're your using say xfce4-power-manager, I think you can set for poweroff after a specified amount of inactivity. screensavers generally manage screen lock and monitor blanking after inactivity. You could also set for poweroff when lid is shut
grill it | the rocky path may just be the best path
