Re: HELP im a newbee

There is a very long list of troubleshooting advice to give.

This is 99% likely-hood a hardware issue.
I suggest taking out all of the Memory DIMMs, and power it on again. If you get beeping, then its not quite dead yet.

Though, the best advice I can give, is take it to a computer repair place that will do free diagnosis.

Now comez the babble !

I think you're looking for the psychics linux users forum. They are 6 forums down and to the left. tongue

Not trying to be aholish .. well actually kinda am. Hard not to be when people post stuff like this. You realize of course it could be many things. Providing useful info ... ANY useful info may help people at least try to help you. Stuff like ... where did you get it, has it always been that way, if not when did it start ... Does it even have an operating system of anykind ... A harddrive of same ? <insert much other stuff here ?>

Could be something simple, could be who knows. But it's obviously pretty dang impossible for anyone to guess @ w zero info from you dood. Still ... plus one'ing Dura (livecd/dvd/usb ). As good a thing to try or place to start as any me thinks/agrees, shrugs. .. Does it have any of those ? Doh ... folks here have no way of knowing, ya didn't tell anyone. Arghhh ! smile

Some common cbiz abbreviations. This will save me time and yet @ same time tell folks what the babble is supposed to mean.

Re: HELP im a newbee

I agree with the above, but...

1. With the machine powered off, and unplugged, remove the battery. Wait five minutes, plug back into the wall-socket.
2. Hit [ESC], [F2], [F10], [F11], or [F12] while booting-up. It's different on almost every machine. See if you can at least access the bios screen.
3. Try the LiveCD again. Make notes of anything unusual.

Re: HELP im a newbee

@ merely jim: and f9 on hp's it seems!

Edit: Oh i see the op has ibm. If it's like my lenovo thinkpad (I started using thinkpads just as ibm was going down in machine sales) then its f12 to go to boot options.
