Lightdm does not start at boot

I am running Debian sid with Xfce4 and Openbox. After a dist-upgrade yesterday, Lightdm does not start when I boot the machine.
I have tried "dpkg-reconfigure lightdm" and "apt-get purge lightdm && install lightdm"

The content of /etc/X11/default-display-manager is:

/usr/sbin/lightdm

In my lightdm.conf, the following lines are uncommented:

[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=lightdm-greeter
greeter-hide-users=true
session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession

What to do?

Does anything happen at all when you run

dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

Did you use smxi to manage the upgrade?

If so did issues get display for lightdm?

Have apt-listbugs installed?

If so did issues get displayed for lightdm?

Have you apt-listbugs installed?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that minute delay between posts is annoying!! Is there way way to turn it off? It's a HUGE disincentive! It makes correcting spelling/grammatical  error painful.

Does your " /etc/X11/default-display-manager " contain "  /usr/bin/lightdm or /usr/sbin/lightdm  " !

run cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager .. to see what's in there

there should be " /usr/bin/lightdm or /usr/sbin/lightdm .

# what's your GPU in used , and the driver used fo it !

# sudo lshw -C Video

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
[ ok ] Reloading system message bus config...done.

Yes, I used smxi. No, there were no errors or issues listed. Yes, I use apt-listbugs

If you re-read OP, you may find the answer to your first question.
My GPU is an ATi Mobility Radeon HD3400 with 256MB RAM, and I use the xorg-video-radeon driver. I am afraid the output for "sudo lshw -C Video" is

sudo: lshw: command not found

Do you get a black screen or something else?
Can you switch to a virtual console using Ctrl+Alt+F1 key combo? Can you log in from there?
Did the dist-upgrade pull in  a new kernel? Or a new xserver?

Nothing but questions for the moment, because the info you gave is not sufficient.

I get a black screen with a "_" in the top left corner. Ctrl+Alt+F1 gives me a console, so I can login, and startx.
My last dist-upgrade installed a new kernel, Liquorix btw, but not a new xserver.

New kernel means you will have to re-install the graphics driver using smxi.
