[SOLVED] laptop microphone not working

Hello!

My microphone on Dell Inspiron laptop (OS - Waldorf) is not working.  Three (at least) reasons why I think so.

1. RecordMyDesktop and Kazam record video and audio files I am playing but not what I speak.

2. ''arecord -d 10 /tmp/test-mic.wav '' creates files with no sound.

3. Friends on Skype chat can't hear me.

I try to modify file "sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" but it's not working.
Does anybody has  ideas how to solve this problem?

Play around with pavucontrol. I remember having to turn on my microphone

Thanks for reply. Playing around with with pavucontrol unfortunately not helping.
How  exactly you turned on your microphone?

Don't remember exactly and I don't use pulse audio anymore (or maybe it was in the volume mixer?). I simply just clicked a ticker and turned unmuted my microphone. Check the settings in your volume mixer too. I can't remember the program name but you can right click the volume icon possibly and get to the preferences from there. Look for something like input devices possibly. Other than that I've never had to try anything else.

EDIT Note:
Skype might not be a good place to troubleshoot.

#! Crunchbanger you were right....:) Thanks a lot for the helps. It turned out that I have to change in pavucontrol profile to ''analog stereo duplex'' . After that my microphone began working. So problem SOLVED!
