I'd like to rip a CD using Sound Juicer. I noticed that the MP3 option wasn't available and found out that MP3 support normally is included in gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. This package is installed and up to date on my system. However, I can't rip a CD to MP3s. How come? I appreciate your help a lot. Thanks.

I think the gstreamer package covers playback but not ripping/encoding. To encode mp3 you need tom install the LAME package, which should be included in the squeeze backports repo.

Thanks, cchhrriiss121212, for answering.
Actually, lame was already installed on my system but while searching in Synaptic, I found out that Sound Juicer requires a package called gstreamer0.10-lame to encode MP3. This package is not included in the main repositories but I added the multimedia repostory and now it works. Sadly, it doen't out of the box but at least I found a solution for this.

And here I was about to suggest going with VLC...

...and I was going to suggest libmp3lame0, which is basically the same thing...just a different packaging of the same library used by other applications...
