My car has room for a double din and I was wondering if there was one on the market that would display my cell phone (not blue-tooth. I mean being able to use my cell phone via a touch lcd instead of the cell itself) or if it would be possible to reprogram one to do that. Hope that makes sense. The logic here is that there isn't anything a receiver does that's directly related to the function of the car (at least mine doesn't, not even the outside temp) other than using the speaker output, but a cell phone can do a lot more.

Hi there Alice,
A topic close to my heart; I use a placeshifting service(Audiogalaxy) and have not used anything but my phone for in-car audio for years now. I'd like to cut out the double-din tape player I've got now(I use one of those old fake-tape cd adapters) and kill off the middle man, so to speak.
If you've got an iPhone, this is the closest anyone has come, it seems, it's been funded but is not yet available.
Which does bupkis for me and my HTC DInc. I've been researching a cheap way to replace my car stereo with nothing but an amp and hookup for mini audio jack, but haven't yet come up with a setup that meets my two main requirements: cheap & inexpensive.
If you come up with something, I'd love to hear about it!

Thank the Mad Engineers for a modicum of restraint, and sorry I can't offer anything past that.

Well, I suppose you could just get a touch screen with HDMI output and a dash kit, then maybe a micro-USB to HDMI cable? No?
Oops.

If your goal is leaning more toward video and not audio, that would be nifty but It wouldn't be of any benefit to me simply because it lacks touch recognition. You'd still have to have your phone in a prominent location to use it. The second screen would be redundant.
