Slightly stuck... audio + display

Hi All,

I'm very new here but have had a browse on the forums and the net in general trying to find answers to my problems.  Basically I *WANT* to use #! because it's just perfect for what I want to do on a netbook, however I've hit a couple of stumbling blocks and would like to ask for some help.

I've tried to have a look around and resolve it but no joy as yet.

Basically the first thing I'd like to do is get the resolution to 1024x600 on an 1015 Asus EEEPC.  I'm struggling with this and have so far only succeeded in breaking my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and am now unable to start X - I can probably put that right though.

The question is really... how can I up the resolution to 1024x600 (from 800x600) on this Asus 1015 EEEPC.  Anyone that can throw light on this would be my savior.

Secondly, and not so importantly... I have no sound.  The slider is there to adjust to, but sadly no sound whatsoever - I wondered if anyone had seen this before and could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Output from xrandr was

xrandr:: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 600, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
    800x600 61.0*

Second edit for display adapter info;

lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Cedarview Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Re: Slightly stuck... audio + display

Ok so day 2 of my scuffle with Cedarview.  I've had some sleep and I'm probably thinking a bit more clearly now.

I think, from what I've read, I'm going to need to make a custom kernel based on 3.3 - wish me luck.  At the moment I'm bumbling around in the twilight (not quite dark) and trying to collect bits and pieces together.

My ultimate goal is to get this working, and then write a step-by-step guide for other poor souls with Cedarview stuck with 800x600 as there appears to be no definative concise step-by-step guide at the moment.  At the very least it should throw some light on for other people and hopefully get more people using this great little OS.

I'll post results as I go, but any comments, tip and info are welcome.  Ahhh reminds me of my first ever PC I owned back in 1991 and having to re-install DOS 3 times on my first day tongue
