Anyone got sup mail client working on #! ? (SOLVED)

Hi all,

I use mutt with offlineimap (and imapfilter), notmuch and msmtp. I'm interested in checking out sup but have had absolutely no luck with this ruby ncurses mail client beyond the deb package install.

Are there any people in the #! universe successfully using this mail client? Would appreciate it if you could share how you got it working!

Tx,
Steven

Re: Anyone got sup mail client working on #! ? (SOLVED)

Just a follow-up.. not sure if these additional packages are absolutely necessay but I added the following from the git dependencies readme file

librmail-ruby1.8
ruby-gpgme
ruby-net-ssh
fastthread (gem)

Sup can produce a lot of Ruby error messages resulting from config files which may or may not autoconfigure properly, even with sup-config - some steps need to be run manually and better documentation of the config files would have been helpful (unfortunately, the sup wiki has been polluted by spammers). A big problem for me was not understanding the maildir hierarchy sup required - every folder needs to be defined in the sources.yaml file from what I can tell so far (unless there are other config switches I haven't discovered yet). Typical sup installations seem to forego the multifolder arrangement for organizing mail in favour of message tagging and its built in search capabilities. My familiarity with mutt was probably a hindrance!

I'm not sure if sup will ultimately displace my trusty mutt/notmuch/offlineimap/imapfilter setup - way too early to tell. It looks like an interesting client - the downside being it is not heavily supported and documentation is sparse. But I have been curious to check this mail client out and see whether it obsoletes the need for imapfilter and the folder organization of my mail (which still may be desirable for other imap access) . The possibility of extending it in Ruby is a big plus and is part of the attraction.

Re: Anyone got sup mail client working on #! ? (SOLVED)

...spoke too soon. Not quite there but almost.

I can see why sup users love this app. Its handling of threaded mail, the way it can auto archive unimportant threads while still providing full search recall is awesome.

I have one last show stopper, however: I can't actually create and send mail! Actually, I can create mail in that I can see the composed email in the tmp directory being created by vim, and I have been able to send mail. But after editing a new email or reply, sup just returns to the mail index without providing a means to actually send the mail just composed.

Frustrating! as sup has shown me enough to want to switch to it from mutt!

Help anyone? :-)
Thanks in advance,
Steven

Success!

It took a re-install of Waldorf and my scripted install of my apps. Something along the way prior to my sup install I guess was the culprit that broke the compose/send mail process.

sup is working and will probably displace mutt as my primary mail client.
