Re: interactive conky

-scratch- lol
Perhaps I can work my battery level in for warp core.?.
I don't use wireless so signal strength is a no-go.

Re: interactive conky

Most of the ship is powered by a fusion reactor(s) to isolate it from the warp core and because the warp core is too powerful.
This keeps things like life support working even if the warp drive is broken or missing.

Re: interactive conky

This conversation made me get my Enterprise-D blueprints out to see if the fusion reactors are on them.
They are, there are several of them, on the key they are called "Standard Fusion Reaction Chamber".

I wonder if I can get the creases out of them and take pictures of them to use a background?

And I yours!!
My post was misguided.
I enjoy(ed) participating in some of the other threads, but of late it has became an unfriendly place.

This is my place to hang out.. conky!!

Re: interactive conky

^ These are the blueprints I was talking about.
You could make a scale model off of these things, including the rooms on the inside.

The fusion reactors are separate from the warp reactor.
They are placed all over the ship near things they power like the impulse engines and environmental systems.

Also did you know that atmospheric force fields are real.
They are very expensive to run though because they require a lot of high voltage electricity.

Re: interactive conky

^ Those are close to the ones I have.
There are more interior details on mine, the big black areas are filled with rooms.
The scan quality is too low for me to make a background out of them though.

I have a 22 Megapixel SLR so if I can get the creases out of the blueprints I can make better looking backgrounds out of them.
I might be able to hide them by using a very bright directed light source, like a halogen stand lamp, to get rid of the shadows.

Try ironing them - no seriously try with something else first.

crease a newspaper ... put a tea towel over the newspaper and with a fine mist spray dampen the tea towel and iron on low/medium heat.

Did that to make crisp creases in military pants - and get rid of double creases.  MUCH better than a steam iron!

Re: interactive conky

^ That's what I was thinking of trying though I don't think I will use water unless I have to, the heat should help some by itself.
These blueprints have been out of print for 16 years, I don't know if I can replace them.

Re: interactive conky

I found a really good warp core diagram.
I will make an icon and then I am thinking that I can use my cores for
core1- matter reactor injector %
bargragh (core1 temp)-matter containment temp
core2-antimatter reactor injector %
bargragh (core2 temp)-antimatter containment temp
And then cheating a bit I will use a volume %
bargraph- warp core power %

any thoughts?

Looks like a pretty cool idea.

core3 ? matter-anti-matter collider?

Yup - ${cpu cpu0} is an average of all your cores.

I also use it to draw lines:

${cpubar cpu0 1,100} Hi ${cpubar cpu0 1,100}
or thinner:
${cpubar cpu0 0,100} Hi ${cpubar cpu0 0,100}

use 2 and you begin to see the actual bar.

CPU 0 = the anti-matter|matter 'lets blow up the universe' chamber.  smile

Re: interactive conky

Took me awhile to get this where I was satisfied with it...
2012_08_21_1345578438_258x223_scrot.jpg
And taking it a little further down the the nerdy trail..

took me a second to work out what the circle was for big_smile ...very nice idea!
can one really be too nerdy when combining conky with star trek??

Re: interactive conky

My wife calls me her nerd.. big_smile
So I usually take "nerd" as a compliment.

I tried and tried to create a cool looking warp core, but just couldn't get it to fit.
So I figured why not use the frame.. and place the matter/antimatter reaction chamber in the center.
Still needs some work, but I got the rough outline done. smile

I think the EPS grid works for ghz.

The field generator is cpu0
deuterium usage is cpu1
and antimatter is cpu2

Re: interactive conky

A*W*E*S*O*M*E*!

One question (I see: still needs some work): "Deployed" for Uptime  big_smile

We forgot "dilithium crystals" Scotty was always talking about them.

I think you should get a part in the next Star Trek Film for your efforts with this interactive conky.

But then, who am I?

Re: interactive conky

lol
"deployed" I haven't forgot.

I was wanting to add either a Doppler radar feed or maybe a Hubble space telescope photo feed.
Not so much for the Doppler radar.. unless it is global.
I could do a stationary space or planet image, but I was wanting something in motion.

Better yet, save "Deployed" til the end when you 'deploy' it to the public'  big_smile

Doppler radar feed or maybe a Hubble space telescope photo feed might be a bit of a draw for people with low bandwidth.  Stationary planet, galaxy, nebula ... might be cool

It's too bad animated gifs don't work with conky.  sad

Re: interactive conky

^ Animated gifs can work in conky that's how I get the radar images in my weather script.
I use gifsicle to separate each frame into its own file and wrote some lua to display them in the correct order.
This website shows how to do it in a .conkyrc without using lua
It is much trickier to setup that way though since you have a lot of if statements.

I believe you can also use graphics/image magick to break up the gif images.
