Hello all. I've been trying and failing for some time to get this wireless card working on any Debian system, but I really love #! and want it on my laptop, so I need to get this wireless working.
I looked at these threads...
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -up-start/
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ta-solved/
And followed instructions from them both, to no result.

I have a function key (F12) with a little LED on it. On other systems (Windows, Ubuntu), when the wireless is working soundly, the LED is white. Now it is orange, signifying that the wireless card is off. But pushing the function key doesn't change the light from orange to white. This would imply that the card is off / deactivated / blocked, but it isn't...
I have never really had to deal with the BIOS, nor have I ever seen any options relating to wireless cards in it.
What is the problem? Thanks in advance.

Realized I forgot dmesg output, so I went to get it and noticed this...
werd@Hevnoraak:~$ dmesg | grep rtl
[ 6.282241] rtl8192se 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16

[ 6.294269] rtl8192se: Driver for Realtek RTL8192SE/RTL8191SE
[ 6.294270] Loading firmware rtlwifi/rtl8192sefw.bin
[ 6.608457] rtl8192se:rtl92s_init_sw_vars():<0-0> Failed to request firmware!
[ 6.608461] rtlwifi:rtl_pci_probe():<0-0> Can't init_sw_vars.
[ 6.608487] rtl8192se 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
werd@Hevnoraak:~$ I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what this output really means, but "Failed to request firmware!" sounds pretty fatal.

In ifconfig results I don't see a device to attach it to.. like eth1 or wlan0
Not attached to eth0 as that is for the Hardwire NIC and certainly not lo
I have installed the RTL8192se before and normally after I compile (or if precompiled the extracted) the firmware is placed in the /lib/firmware dir.
Once modproded the firmware normally would create a wlan0 device as it's function.
To make this permanent, edit
Your /etc/network/interfaces.
should look something like..
# my wifi device
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

Yes! Success!
sqlpython was right, I hadn't copied the firmware into the correct directory.
I simply downloaded the Realtek driver from their website, extracted it, and copied the contents of ./firmware/rtlwifi/ into /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/. I then added only the line "auto wlan0" to /etc/network/interfaces and everything is working perfectly.
Thank you, I'll change the post title to solved.
