Re: How to access my network

You're really not providing a lot of details about what it is you wish to do. Are both computers running Linux? Do you just want to be able to watch stuff on one computer that is stored on another? Because in that case, you could use upnp software like mediatomb/ushare with VLC. Do you want to be able to copy files from one computer to the other over the network? If so you can use FTP software like filezilla and vsftpd, or set up a NFS share. If one of the computers is running windows, then you might need to use samba to set something like that up.

Re: How to access my network

Sorry I wasn't sure how much detail was needed. My laptop is running Linux(#!) My Desktop is running Windows. I wanna be able to access the files on my desktop from my laptop, such as pictures and moves and music, so I don't HAVE to keep all my music and etc on the laptop. Copying files, yes. I wanna be able to copy files from my desktop to my laptop through the network. Obviosuly my laptop is connected wirelessly and my desktop is connected through the ethernet. NOW whatever it is I need to do could someone explain to me on how I would go abotu doing it because im new to linux.

Re: How to access my network

You need to set up samba then. SMB (server message block) is the protocol used by Windows workgroups, homegroups, domains, etc. and samba is the Linux implementation of that protocol. Check out this guide here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -and-easy/
Now if you just want to watch a movie or listen to music without making a second copy of the file, then you want to use upnp. I'm not really up to speed on what upnp servers work the best under Windows, perhaps someone else has might have a suggestion.
