mainly all the fun glow tools, i can only find them for windows
Have you tried Filters > Artistic > Softglow or Filters > G'MIC > Light Glow? There are also several techniques using shadows and blurs eg glow-styles

I had a look but they didn't quite work 100% the way I wanted them too.
But i will tweak some settings next time and hope for the best!
Im no gimp wizard, alot of what I do is "lets see what this button does"

I can spend hours exploring G'MIC - it's an Aladdins Cave of effects!

G'MIC, i couldn't find a linux download for this or know where to put it! Do you have a link or anything??
Also known as GREYC's Magic Image Converter. It's a seperate plug-in but it now may be included with gimp-2.8. It's in the repos as gimp-gmic
