hello.
recently i tried to set up an adhoc network between my windows laptop and my x60s running statler stable. after about 30 minutes of tweaking, in which all i did was tweak the ipv4 settings, i abandoned the attempt since it wasn.t working and it was getting late.
i get up the next morning and not only can i NOT connect via my usual wifi spot, but i also can.t connect via ethernet. half an hour later, i also discover (and i can.t imagine how this is related) that i can.t read any external data from my SD card, my thumb drive or any of my external USB hard drives.
the data on my favorite laptop of all time has effectively become an island unto itself (it.s been about 3 weeks since my last backup). i would be eternally indebted if someone could point me to a resolution to this frightening development.
i can.t even post cut/pasted outputs from bash so i have taken the liberty of snapping some shots of the screen with my camera but i will have to upload them later tonight when i get home as my T60 backup doesn.t have an SD slot. (fyi: 'home' is a campground with sketchy internet so forgive me if i seem unresponsive.)
for the record, i can connect to the modem but not the internet.
i.m assuming a bash report of iwconfig and ifconfig will be needed. anything else...?
dialog from plugging into the usb ports says, "Failed to mount "Hitachi" / Cannot create mount directory.

hi, I am afraid I not able to help you with the wifi issue, but I have a suggestion at least for backing up your data..try a live #! session and see how it works..

thanks for the reply and suggestion. my x60s does not have an optical drive but i may try that by migrating the internal hd to another thinkpad. even if i have to tank this thing i won.t have lost much data--my real goal here is to figure out why this happened and correct the situation.
i have discovered that my root directory is not only dismally small but also all used up. i have used gparted recently to resize partitions and run a dual boot with xp/cb on my other thinkpad but i am leery of tweaking a root partition. anyone have any recommendations...?
