Linux refuses to install?

I've had no trouble installing Linux before, but lately, when I put in a LiveCD, it just stops loading it about halfway through. And by that, I mean, my whole computer becomes unresponsive.

My computer in a Compaq Presario SR5310F.

Compaq laptop?

When it halts, hold down a key. any key. Ctrl for example. It will boot when you hold that, trust me.

There was a patch committed to 2.6.30 but I don't know if that fixes the issue, as my buggy DSDT was fixed.
