how to remove the networkmanager applet [solved]

After installing xnetcardconfig and setting my ip-adress with it, the NetworkManager applet in the top right of the screen always shows a white x in a red circle as if networking is not functioning, but in reality networking is functioning. Therefore I want to remove that applet, but I don't know how to do that.

thanks in advance
jean

Best Thing Ive found is to rename/move the file:

/etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop

Hope this helps
