ACPI scripting

I would like to make a ACPI script for Fn buttons on my laptop. Problem is I cannot find any tutorials for writing ACPI scripts.
Do any of you know where I can find such a resource?

Re: ACPI scripting

Hi oneself, welcome to Crunchbang! smile

I scratched the surface of this a while ago getting screen dimming to work on a Sony Vaio, using these two pages:
http://shallowsky.com/blog/linux/kernel … ttons.html
http://shallowsky.com/blog/linux/laptop … -tips.html

NB
1) The command to check acpi key names is acpi_listen not acpi-listen.
2) The scripts will be run by acpi, as root I think, not by you, so you have to look out for permissions issues etc. eg when using xbacklight it wouldn't work unless the X session cookie name was hard-coded into the script. ( Not elegant at all, and I'm eager to hear if there's a better way for root to find out who's running the current X session. )

Anyway, good luck, and please post here if you find any better information!
