Re: No sound after installation

basic adjustment tweeks smile

alsa-base alsa-utils build-essentia

were already installed - no updates required

$ wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/firmware/alsa-firmware-1.0.23.tar.bz2

wget failed, so I got the dl ... ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/firmware … 25.tar.bz2 from http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page
note: alsa-firmware-1.0.25.tar.bz2

extracted tarball and proceeded

$ cd alsa-firmware-1.0.25
$ ./configure
$ cd maestro3
$ make
$ sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/lib/firmware/ess

from maestro3 dir

$ sudo cp *fw /usr/local/lib/firmware/ess

then

$ sudo modprobe -r snd-maestro3 ; sudo modprobe snd-maestro3

checked audio group - and re-booted - opened

alsamixer

then ran simple

speaker-test

to verify change

fixed typo

Re: No sound after installation

OK. Thanks. smile

sudo # modprobe -r snd-maestro3 ; sudo modprobe snd-maestro3

The '#' should be removed.

Re: No sound after installation

Thanks, there is some progress on my cb system, but still no sound.
Both modprobe commands worked fine, in alsamixer the ESS soundcard appeared and was selected.
But after reboot the soundcard did not appear any longer in alsamixer and I had to do the same two modprobe commands again to make it re-appear.
These are the error messages from alsa-mixer:

peter@crunchbang:~$ alsamixer
ALSA lib conf.c:1220:(parse_def) show is not a compound
ALSA lib conf.c:1686:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:24:26:Unexpected char
ALSA lib conf.c:3406:(config_file_open) /usr/share/alsa/pulse-alsa.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it

Re: No sound after installation

@pan2012: Are you running #! Waldorf perhaps - you seem to have pulseaudio running, but your alsa-base version is the one from debian stable.
Post output of:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install alsa-base

Then reboot, and post output of

lsmod

Okay, alsa-base is re-installed now.
Still the same error messages from alsamixer.
Reboot did not help
I will try the other available cb iso-images.

Re: No sound after installation

I just booted in a Waldorf install:
(1) I get the same messages as you when starting alsamixer
(2) First I thought I had no sound either, but you just have to up the volume a bit by using the 'up' arrow
and then...
there was sound smile

Re: No sound after installation

How's @Maleficus doing with this now? I was working with stable 10 from Feb. 2011 in this circumstance.
