need help configuring X settings for Dell C400 (Intel i830)

Hello, all.

I have a Dell C400 with a troublesome Intel i830 graphic chip that seems to present graphics problems with many newer distros. Crunchbang 9.04 runs beautifully on it (with a few tweaks), but at long last I've decided I need to update. If at all possible, I'd like to use Statler. I've successfully installed the latest release using the text installer, but I need someone to walk me through getting X to work.

I've tried these settings and these along with similar settings, but the X server still won't start. The error message tells me to check /var/log/Xorg.0.log, which contains this:

I installed the liquorix kernel and it worked fine, aside from screen flashes when booting.
