Hi!
I've been using linux for around 8 years (mostly ubuntu). Recently I've been using windows just because I got a new computer and I didn't feel like installing a new OS since windows was working fine. The other day though I saw that a new testing version of crunchbang was released (waldorf) and since I like openbox quite a bit I decided to just go for it and install crunchbang.
For the last 24 hours I've been ripping through the forums looking for tips and tricks and useful scripts to enhance my crunchbang experience.
Usually I'm more of a lurker on community forums but I've decided to change that this time!

I still have a lot of work left before I can really call my desktop truly mine! but hopefully I can get some help from the good people here in the crunchbang forums.

Of course you can
Have you already checked the Artwork section? Pure inspiration. And I have a vision - i see you, spending endless hours, configuring conky as next

And there goes all my free time...
EDIT: I need to learn to read what I write before I submit..

If we would accumulate all the hours we have spent (wasted?) configuring tint2, conky, gtk themes, Openbox themes, ANSI colours, .bashrc's, rc.xml's and menu.xml's ... don't dare to think of it

I can't even begin to imagine. But now that I think about the craziest part for me is how much time I spend on this kind of stuff whenever I install a new distro and then how easily I just delete everything and start over from scratch with a fresh install. I almost feel as if more time is spent customizing than using!

Exactly! That's why I call it destroy-hopping, and not distrohopping
The saddest part was when I had an xmonad setup - it could literally read minds - which took me months to set up, and then I discovered Crunchbang.

I might have to steal that word!
and dang! I've considered from time to time delving a little into xmonad but I've always been intimidated by the haskell...

Yeah, you can probably have the same functionality with awesome/spectrwm/dwm/... with fewer dependecies. Especially you can find more support and ideas here on the forum. See "WM/DE" section

Yeah dwm it pretty easy to configure and it looks pretty nice
I really have to look through 'WM/DE' section a little more, I'm still slowly making my way through 'Tips, Tricks & Scripts'

If you have any free time left after you're done configuring conky and want to use it all up playing with window managers, check out this thread. Once I started WM hopping I gave up distro hopping...
Be eggsalad to each other.

Yeah! I was looking through your thread earlier, really amazing dedication
I'll have to take more in depth look at it and see about playing around with some new WMs
