Some #! love

I would to start by saying, what a fantastic distro. I've been distro hopping for almost a week now and I'm glad I settled on #! . Prior to this, I had been mainly using Ubuntu on and off for the past 5 years. The installation was a breeze, the setup and update completed effortlessly.

I tried and was never satisfied with Ubuntu, Linux Mint, PinguyOS, Kubuntu. The frequent lags, hangs etc drove me up the wall. I was so close to installing Arch but decided against it. OpenSuse was nice and all but waaay to bloated. Crunchbang has been perfect for my needs.

I'm here to stay and learn more about linux. I currently have a lot of time on my hands and I would be learning programming as well. In case you wanna know, I'm using an Acer 7550 laptop.

Thanks

Re: Some #! love

^ If you like streams, have a look at veetle (google) or the good-old radiotray for music.

Re: Some #! love

The only stations I listen to on radiotray are from sky.fm . I've never used veetle before. Good tips.

Re: Some #! love

^ In this case you don't need radiotray big_smile

Add to your ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml (around line 40 or 50 or so):

        <menu id="root-menu-15239" label="Radios">
            <item label="Stop Playpack">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>killall vlc</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm Oldies">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public1/oldies.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm Top Hits">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public1/tophits.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm 80s">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public3/the80s.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm Smooth Jazz">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public1/smoothjazz.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm Piano Jazz">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public1/pianojazz.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
            <item label="sky.fm Country">
                <action name="Execute">
                    <execute>cvlc http://listen.sky.fm/public1/country.pls</execute>
                </action>
            </item>
        </menu>

Will play in the non-GUI version of vlc.

Re: Some #! love

Just uninstalled Radiotray ... at this point, it's just bloat big_smile. I added the other stations I like. Thanks a bunch. Any other cool tips?

Re: Some #! love

Take a look at the Tips & Tricks section, there are some nice things, for example johnraff's BBC pipe menu: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … pipe-menu/

Generally I am a huge fan of John's: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … y-dilbert/

Or the pipe-menu thread: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … nu-thread/
