Hi everyone.
My name is Sebulon and I live in Sweden.
I'm new with Linux / Debian and all that, I've tried almost every famous Linux software but falled in love with #! (CrunchBang), the look, the speed, and this awesome forum
.
Like I said I'm a newb, I'm not used with the terminal codes yet, there's only 3 commands I've learned so far and that is sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get install (program) and sudo apt-get remove (program).
The reason I started using Debian / Linux is that I have grown tired of Windows and playing games and that I want to have control over my own computer.
What I want now is to build a "multimedia center" for photo / film / music editing software because it's my hobby.
P.S
If you have any suggestions about photography, film, music editing software, feel free to tell me, or maybe a cool theme, etc.
Cheers !

hi Sebulon, welcome to the community! i see a whole bunch of great reasons for using #!, so i'm glad you're pleased with it. you'll get to know the terminal commands in time, don't worry about it. just keep hanging out on these forums and watch people explain stuff to other people, and you'll get the hang of it eventually.
all i know about when it comes to software is for music editing, but that depends on what you want to do. in the case of real editing of files etc, i think Audacity is your best option. when it comes to setting up a mediacenter and having music playback, it really depends on what you're looking for. if you want it simple and clean, inside your terminal, you can try out either MOC or MPD. i haven't got much experience with the alternatives, but you might want to check out this thread: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … o-you-use/
good luck! if you have questions, feel free to ask them!

Hi rhowaldt and thank you ! yes i got some reasons and I'm glad aswell to have found CrunchBang. With time comes knowledge, I will use my best friend google and this forum to learn useful stuff.
Okey, I'll check it out and see if it matches my requirements. I play no instrument, I used Fl studio when I ran Windows. But like i said i will take a look at Audacity and the topics you linked
Thank you and i will probably have questions in the future !

@Sebulon: i use Renoise to make my digital music. Audacity is purely a soundfile-editor, not a music-making program (although in theory you can use it for making music). for actually making your own music, these threads might be of use:

Hi there Sebulon - welcome to the friendliest forum in linuxworld
GIMP is the most wonderful software ever invented for image editing (IMHO)!
I like kdenlive for video, but some folk here don't like it because of the kde stuff that comes with it
ffmpeg is a handy tool
Lots of themes/wallpapers etc available - hang out in the Artwork and Screenshots forum, or head over to deviantArt for crunchbang-specific and openbox ideas - crunchbang-linux on deviantart and openbox customisation
Enjoy your stay
Artwork at deviantArt; Iceweasel Personas; SLiM #! Themes; Openbox themes

^ Renoise is not free software. however, it is very, very cheap software: http://www.renoise.com/buy - that is EUR 58. what you get for that is the current version of Renoise + a full version number of free upgrades. that means you now buy Renoise 2.8 and you're good to go up to and including Renoise 3.8. this might already sound pretty cool, but it becomes even cooler when you realize that the Renoise devs don't do updates the way, say, Chrome or Firefox do them. they actually add massive cool stuff with each update. for example, the update to 2.5 added LUA scripting to the GUI, allowing users to build their own tools etc. these are not sissy-updates with just a few patches and bugfixes. these are really worthwhile, feature-filled updates. and then, for comparison on how long your license will continue: updates from 1.5 until 2.5 have taken about 5 years: http://www.renoise.com/release-notes
on top of all that, it is an insanely versatile and powerful piece of software, with a native Linux client.
so if you were ever looking for good value for your money, this is it.
(this is not meant to be 'advertising' or anything. i am not part of the Renoise dev-team or whatever. i am just being totally honest and excited about this. it is one of the best deals i ever came across)

^ Should have either a GUI installer (similar to the ones in those other two operating systems) or a script.
Nobody's mentioned Ardour and Soundgarden yet??
Offline
^ Renoise just unzips to a directory and there's not even the need to actually install it, it will run just like that from the executable.
i would've mentioned those other apps if i'd ever tried them. i hear they are very good though.
