Crunch at work

Being OpenSource oriented in hostile Windows world is a tough one. smile

I have chosen #! for a project: #!+virtualBox to run Windows.
So students in one of my schools start a computer and then see how #! starts virtualbox and then windows is started in vbox seamless mode. At the end they have fullscreen "real" windows 7
I have messed up #! in a way to remove tint, make #! in autologin mode and change default key bindings & mouse bindings and a little bash script to start cb-exit after windows had been shut down. .

Sound a bit stupid and complicated.. but that is an experiment.

Please, Do not send my name to Darwin Award nomination program.
I have already won it.. two times smile

That doesn't roll off the tongue in a pleasant way, but none the less.

Re: Crunch at work

@falldown, I run Win7 in VB for a couple of apps my customers must have and I am amazed at how much faster with very little resources it runs...  It loads faster and runs incredibly well.

Re: Crunch at work

I do run a modded version of XP in VirtualBox for games.
I guess I'm just misunderstanding what the OP is saying.

Re: Crunch at work

Welcome, ✌!
(Hand should be ✋ U+270B, but I'm on Windows at the moment, so u get a victory hand.)

Running primary OS virtually on a lightweight host is not uncommon in schools, but it could be more popular. It is goof proof and makes it easy to change setups for lessons. It saves administrators and teachers a lot of useless system cleanup work.

I think Windows 7 is designed to be run in virtual machines rather than real ones. When you lauch a readily set fresh copy of a virtual machine, there is no need to play with group policies and other manmade obstacles of productive work.

Re: Crunch at work

Thank you for warm welcome.
In fact couple of my winServers are on #!+VB chassis.
It is a lot easier to wake the server up and not to drive down the road 40 miles to press the button. smile

I have found two weird things:
- (not #! related i think) When you clone the VB machine (or disk) ..the initial image starts very slow after cloning job was done.
- (#!) Apps like terminator and stuff start themself with visible delay.. 2 or 3 sec on the server of 1 GB ram.
