Re: What are you listening to right now ?

Pink Floyd-"Obscured By Clouds", my favorite is probably "Dark Side...", but I am really wondering if there is any band out there making epic music like Floyd did nowadays?

jean luc ponty -- renaissance

One night after an orchestra concert, still wearing his formal tuxedo, Ponty found himself at a local club with only his violin. Within four years, he was widely accepted as the leading figure in jazz fiddle.

Re: What are you listening to right now ?

gong -- downwind

try it, you'll like it...  then we'll listen to some mike oldfield...

Like the other Pierre Moerlen's Gong albums, Downwind is predominantly jazz fusion and has little to do with the psychedelic space rock of Daevid Allen's Gong, even though the bands share a common history. It marks a slight departure from the formula of Pierre Moerlen's Gong's previous records Gazeuse! and Expresso II, towards conventional pop/rock.
"Aeroplane" and "What You Know" are short-form pop songs featuring lead vocals by Moerlen, the first time vocals appeared on a Gong record since 1975. Keyboards, some of which are provided by Steve Winwood, augment or even replace mallet percussion on a few tracks. Mike Oldfield contributes guitar on the title track.

^ Unless you're a redneck, it takes a pretty hefty pair to admit you listen to Country.  Frankly, though, I think the only difference between some Modern Country and some Classic Rock is the twang in the vocals.

Re: What are you listening to right now ?

^ Interesting notions considering that country is just as old and influential as any American music or contributions, including blues.  Personally I have no idea what redneck music is...

As a musician and music lover, I find any song that can move someone either lyrically or musically is good, no matter the genre... Ranging from those above to:

Ice T - Midnight

and

Ludacris - Area Codes

Would those make me a gangsta? smile

Wait... using a hand-mirror to check across from wall-mirror... okay, what's a tan-neck mean?
There are a lot of fads in music, and thankfully, only the best are remembered decades later. Those of you who are cool now, take note. One day, a twelve-year-old is going to say your music sucks.
Get it in writing who the "cool" bands are today, so you might shame the children twenty years from now.

Re: What are you listening to right now ?

Actually, I meant to imply that VastOne has a Vast Pair. cool

From the song I mentioned above:  "There's no line at the door and only five people bothered to advance pay."  I've heard this is not an uncommon story for smaller bands and singer/songwriters.  (By the way, you may recognize the song from the Geico Texas commercial.)

Incidentally, what Rascal Flatts is calling Country these days would have been called Southern Rock 20 years ago.
