Is there any way to get an email notification applet for the panel in Crunchbang?
More specificly, gMail?

Right now, I just use Conky for my email notifications.
There is a program I used to use, I think it was just simply called mail-notification, that worked pretty well. Dunno if it does gmail, though.

I dont know about an applet but there are programs that run in the systray. Just search Synaptic for gmail.

If you happened to be using TB, you can try TB mailbox-alert add-on.

Don't know if claws or other email program has a similar add-on, but you might want to check. Mail alerts is a common issue.

I have always used mail-notification because I check 2 gmail and 1 imap accounts....
chechgmail only allows for one gmail account... and I'm having problems with mail-notification. I'm trying to get mail-notification to work... it does but if I mark all email as read (the icon goes away from the tray) and then a new email comes in, the application crashes. If I run it from command the error just says 'Segmentation Fault'.
Any ideas?

Yes, Claws Mail has both a tray icon with new mail notification (the little envelop turns red) included and additionally a plug-in (possibly for previous versions)
