I've just installed the latest version of #! and have run an update.
Some of the packages are a little old such as chromium. I've been looking through some of the postings in the forum trying to figure out if I can switch to using the Mint LMDE repos in place of the standard #! repos.
Will this work? I'm thinking that they are both Debian based??
Thanks

For what purposes?
If you want newer apps, there is an exceelnt guide to pinning by hardran3 here. Pinning will allow you to pull directly from Debian's Testing/Sid/experimental repos

Last I heard, people who mix Ubuntu or LMDE repos with Debian were having a really bad day.
The entire Debian camp is about Stable software.
If you really want bleeding edge I would seriously suggest Archbang.

How is Archbang more bleeding edge than Debian Sid?
Curious mind needs to know...
They have things like KDE 4.8

Just to get more recent software ..... rolling would be a nice addition.
I was only thinking of using the 'stable version of LMDE repos' which don't update very often.
Anyone else tried this??

I was running LMDE for a while... I opted for Debian Stable w/ Backports via the new #! image.
一期一会 Let it be good.

I am a Mod for the LinuxMint/LMDE Forums ... and I do as others here have done.
Since, LMDE is totally based on Debian's Testing branch ... I have reverted my LMDE repros to a default Debian 'testing'
The LMDE 'Latest' or 'Incoming' Repros have not been 'updated' in several months now.
Although, I have heard through talking with Clem (lead-developer for Mint) that the new image for LMDE "Update Pack 4" is almost ready for release.

Ok, Black Ivan is coming to your room!
IMO, if you want a hardcore stable system, forget about LMDE and pinning.
But, you are in the sub section of Testing/Unstable, so, I would do this, forget about your Stable, and go with Testing or Unstable, especially if you want to stay with Debian, I think Debian still talks CrunchBang and the opposite, so forget about ArchBang if you want to stay on the Debian side as @Chief Vast said, Debian Sid is bleeding edge for our purposes (Openbox, Scrotwm, Xfce etc.). There is no KDE 4.8, what the hell, for what, I do not think KDE is very popular here in our forums anyway @KD5. Also Debian has reasons to not pull it yet.
And, thanks to @vrkalak, do not use the LMDE repos on your Testing/Unstable system, I assure you they will make more problems than to solve them, at least at the moment. Yeah, I am a purist anyway.
@OP: Again, if it is just for Chromium, I would stay on Stable and thake Google Chrome, it is fully supported under CrunchBang Statler/Debian Squeeze. This Chromium never made sense to me.
But as @Chief Vast said, you can use apt pinning as a last resort to install Chromium to your Stable system.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to install Chrome and stick with the Stable Debian branch.

There you go! Good thinking. I ran the bleeding edge and frankly, for the features they tried to offer, running the bleeding edge is stupid...
Stupid, unless you just want to alpha and beta test for the rest of your life.
They have needs for people in both places.
And this OS is really set up for stable and speed.
Where Arch is really set up for bleeding edge testing of slower running bloatware.

^ Running bleeding edge is a choice that has nothing to to do with intelligence...
I cannot speak for Archbang, but Sid and Testing have been nothing but awesome performers for a year now on 17 machines.
As you stated there are needs for people with the courage to live on the edge for the purposes of making sure the updated packages are ready for the rest who want it when it is delivered.

@madwoolly: Ok, now you can mark your thread solved by editing the title of your first post.
PS: Some people just cannot run Sid, so they have to bash it.
Oh, I am so stupid, I run it, oh oh oh, what a disgrace!!!

The funny thing is that I ran LMDE. I took an update that included Gnome 3 stuff (granted I should have read the fine print), but SID actually straightened it out (but a re-image with #! fixed it).
