Cant boot from usb netbook?

When i try to boot my netbook from a live usb stick that ive made (i have tried with many different programs with many different distros) it never ends up going past a screen that says "syslinux 4.04 EDD 2011-04-18 then some copyright info... it just hangs there... any help??

I could of sworn this was all working fine a couple months ago when i was testing some new distro out, i can also install windows just fine from usb... for some reason this is just hanging at the copyright screen?

My Netbook is the Acer Aspire One AO722-0473

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

Probably pointless ... Am not familiar with that netbook, not so much interested in live gnu/nix installs atm either. Think it's kewl all the stuff opensource devs can do though. When someone says I've tried many progs, done this n that. Doesn't at all help me thinks. With that outta the way, from dumping too much time on a couple distro forums have kept seeing pendrivelinux pop up over n over. Link 2 site.

If you've already tried it and are sure you did everything right ... then dunno. Oops, forgot another kinda related piece of opensource goodness ya might look over ... PLop, supposed to let people boot from usb, even if their bios doesn't support it. Never used either pendriveetc or PLop yet. So o course sayin don't know if it'll work out for your situation or ....

Nope o course thought of more babble, who know ... somebody may get use or whatever. If you're sure it worked before and has stopped, perhaps summin you did ? Dig around in bios or reset them. Or if feeling adventurous update/flash bios if any updates are available for that sys ? Ok now good and done. lol

Some common cbiz abbreviations. This will save me time and yet @ same time tell folks what the babble is supposed to mean.

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

Had to post here CB because plop is awesome,   my Dell cant boot from a usb, old bios, but I use plop religiously, easy to install (just add it to 40_custom) and BAM, there it is, booting from a USB, no problems.   The documention is good too, for grub or grub2

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

I used UNetbootin from my Mint (Ubuntu) system to create a bootable USB #! from the ISO. Worked fine on my Acer AO532h Netbook.

I've run into that exact issue. it's a problem with the way the bootloader is read, and I'm guessing you used unetbootin? what you will need to do is simple, just follow the instructions in this link http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation and everything should go smoothly.

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

I was experiencing the same issues on my Acer Aspire One so I tried going into the bios by hitting F8 on startup. For whatever reason this led me to the start-up screen of whatever distro I was installing (worked for Linux Mint 13 Mate and Fedora 17 LXDE), press the arrow keys to get the menu and choose to install. Hope that helps.

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

When unetbootin doesent work for me i use a windows program called, WIn32 DIsc Imager.
Can be found in this link or if you search you might find a newer i dont know.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Too … ager.shtml

I always get a errormessage on startup but ignore that. Show all files when looking for your chrunchbang image, pick and the magic will begin.

Hope this might work. ON my msi pc i coulden dualboot or eaven try to install a linux beside it.
i erased the whole disc on my msi (gaming laptop), and in installed win7 pro and just used as much of the disc i wanted to, then installed #! later.

Then i think ive hear of other people having troble with chrunchbang 11 (waldorf) and usb booting. I did not with img32 discwriter but unebootin did not work for me that time.

GOod luck #! mate smile

EDIT

Another tips is to use, Parted Magic
http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads

Use gparted and erase all partitions you dont like to have.
Iam using that software as often as i need, its a really good tool.
But now i use ultimate boot disc och a usb, witch contains parted magic and many other good tools.

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

Thanks very much, Cosinquanon!  F8 did it for me.  Solutions don't get much easier than that!      smile

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

The Acer Aspire One AO722 has been known to be a problem, I have one.
My solution/suggestion is a distro with a kernel higher than 3.5.
(My machine is using LinuxBBQ, but that is a Debian Sid based distro.)
Suggest you first try AntiX distro, see if it works, & then go from there.

Linux since 1999
Currently:  AntiX, & Crunchbang.
