Hey I'm just using Crunchbang for the first time and my @ and " are flipped. When I hit Shift+' I get @ and when I hit Shift+2 I get ". It's quite odd. It's not a big issue for me but I thought I would put it out there. If it's a known issue that I just missed in my search, I apologize.
I am running Crunchbang from USB on an HP Mini 1035NR. I installed it using the instructions at pendrivelinux.com

My guess is that you aren't using a UK keyboard.

You've probably got US keyboard map.
Edit your ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh (there is a shortcut for this in the Preferences->Openbox menu). You'll see a section where you can set your locale and keymap.
I think UK is en-GB or summat like that.

I have crunchbang running off a cdrom and my keymap is confused in the same way as the OP reports. Is there a way to change the keymap loaded at kernel boot time (because it is a Live-CD situation and you don't have read-write files to edit ...)
Thanks for clues.

After loading the LiveCD, open a terminal and run "setxkbmap us". That should work.

Hey! Yup, very helpful, it works. I'm only saying 'thanks' now, weeks later, because i didn't want to merely add a useless forum-clogging post saying only 'thanks." I used your helpful advice within 24 hours of receiving it, though.
Useful, perhaps, for future reference: the docus for casper, the Debian-and-derivatives Live CD filesystem hook thingy, say that one could use a kernel flag at boot time: keyb=us for example. However, this didn't work for me when I tried once.
I think that it didn't work because typing "live" as the first part of the boot line is like using a macro; it actually "expands" to a number of boot flags/options, and ends in "--". The "--" signals the end of boot options that the kernel will see, IIUC (If I Understand Correctly). But there may be a way of booting from the syslinux prompt which allows the keyb=us flag to "pass through" to the boot process.
Thanks again.
