Any ideas why networkmanager neglects to execute macchanger to change the address? Networkmanager works fine, and so does macchanger - but putting
# Radomize the mac address for the given interface
/usr/bin/macchanger -e $IFACE
in
/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/macchanger
Does nothing.

/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/macchanger
Does nothing.
Forgive a stupid question, but did you make it executable?

Not a stupid question. Chmod 777 a+x on /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/macchanger - but yes, it doesn't execute or anything...
But I guess that is ubuntu tutorials for you... don't say how anything works just say "do this." What is making network manager read a file called macchanger, etc...

Looks like there's actually a bug filed about this issue:

Well since that doesn't work - any ideas on a better way to apply macchanger to an interface before connecting?
Thanks.
