I have a Viglen MPC (400MHz AMD Geode processor & 512MB RAM) which currently runs xubuntu with xfce
It's horrid.
I'd love to put CrunchBang on it but I'm having a little difficulty.
Using the same USB stick with which I successfully installed Crunchee, I get a kernel panic error with the MPC.
Looking around, I may need to edit the kernel line, to include acpi=off and pnpbios=off - I know how to do this with grub, once I've completed the install, but how can I do it pre-install?
I also have the distro on a CD, and a USB-DVD drive. It won't boot from it (yes I've set the order in the bios) so how can I "run" the live CD from within xubuntu? it mounts the CD but I can't see anything in the root directory like a shell script for "running" the live CD?
Thanks,

I don't know if it can be done -pre-installl...
and I don't think Live CD's like ours have any such shell script either
/"useful" post
Can anyone help this man? I hope so, because I'm considering an MPC-L

Okay, so it can be done!
A few things to note for a Viglen MPC
This unit has 4 USB 2.0 slots on the front and 2 USB 1.1 slots on the back. In order to boot from a USB device (either a stick or a CD/DVD drive), these need to be in the rear 1.1 slots. I have no idea why, seems very odd to me.
On start, press F1 to enter the bios - this is a very basic bios. Change the boot order (swap 1 & 4 - USB Flash Stick/HDD and USB CD)
Save & exit
Using the unetbootin prepared USB stick, with the full #!CrunchBang distro, when the initial menu loads, press dwon arrow to highlight:
xforcevesa
(it won't work on the default settings - dunno why)
press TAB key to get to the "command line" and add the following to the end:
<space>acpi=off<space>pnpbios=off
^^^^^ just press the space bar...
press enter.
This wil now work, I have a running MPC with #! to prove it!
Good luck,

Ian

thank you for sharing your solution.
It would have been rude not to have done - I wouldn't be where I am today, had you not shared yours...
.... and in any case, I'l no doubt be back asking more stupid questions in due course!:D
