I just want to say hi!
I started using Crunchbang few weeks ago and I'm in love with it! It's fast...no, very very fast actually, it's stable, it consumes very few resources (RAM, CPU...) and it's very good looking.
I'm actually virtualizing it until I decide wich netbook I buy and I will install it for sure.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and now I'll go directly to the "Help & Support (Stable)" forum section to see if someone can help me with my issue.
Cheers from Spain to all of you, #!ers : D

Hello, it's always nice to welcome new members with a positive outlook like yours. There's still some hors d'oeuvre and caviar on the table at the rear of the meeting hall.

Welcome to #!
Personally, I've used the Acer netbooks, but there's been good feedback on ASUS, Lenovo and HP as well.

Welcome to #!
And RE netbooks, i have an Acer Aspire 531h:
http://genuinenotebook.blogspot.com/200 … -531h.html
And there are some issues that i havent managed to fix.
I could install the Kuki Kernel on the older version of statler to fix the Wlan problem, and the internal speakers.
The new version of Statler throws an error when installing the Kuki Kernel, but the speakers work fine.
If you are going to buy a new netbook, get a HP or Asus

Many thanks to all of you!
I'm going after Asus mainly because there's an EEE version of #!, but there's an HP that is also cheap in a store near to where I live.
This one is the model

(it's in spanish, specs are at the bottom of the page)
Do you have any information of how good or bad is that model? If I don't get that I'll probably get an ASUS EeePC 1011PX or maybe, if I get solved my post in the Help section, I'll get the ASUS X101, but i've been told that the battery is too small to hold power for 2:30h

^ If you're talking about Cruncheee it's obsolete now. Trust me, Crunchbang fits perfectly and runs perfectly OOTB on my 2007 model ASUS 701 with a 4GB SSD, you know, the one with the throttled back Pentium processor. My vote for a new ASUS would be the 1015 series. Battery life is about 7 hours on my 1015PEM with cpufrequtils installed.

You still have the 701?!?! And it runs well??!! O.O!
In Amazon (Spain) there's the Asus 1015PD for 241,24 € and the Asus 1015T costs 293,41€ wich are a little expensive for what I want to spend.
I really don't need a lot of power, because, for the power I can need, I have my Macbook Pro 13inch (2.26Ghz, 8Gb RAM 125Gb SSD, 500Gb HDD optibay) and the netbook is suposed to be the "portable one", because the mac only holds up aprox. 40min unplugged.
I will only use it for the computer programming subjects at my university, taking ocasional notes and to read some pdf-s.
EDIT: Just for the record, a tablet isn't useful for me because of the lack of physical keyboard and the lack of linux distros (not android and the apps in it)

If money is a concern, do what I do and buy a model that is just being replaced by a newer one, i.e., one that' s six or nine months or even a year old. Reason 1. it's more like to be supported by Linux by then and 2. like I said, you could save some money and that's always good. Hope you find what you're looking for regardless of what you choose!! Post back and let us know what you get, OK?
EDIT -- to answer your question about the 701: yes, I've used it every day since 20071204 and it's just fine. I replaced the battery charger this past spring sometime and a replacement battery is in the mail from Amazon. It's set up as a backup computer should I ever need it.

^ I always get batteries from Amazon. Way cheaper than anywhere else I've found...

Welcome, I intend to try out !# on my powerbook if I just can figure out how to modify it for ppc or I was actually considering buying something cheap. There are some quite cheap netbooks and laptops nowadays. Good luck and rock on :-D

Welcome to #! House, DarthRivan! Enjoy the beer & pizza, but remember - pledges have to clean the House in the morning.
@dubois, merelyjim: I just got a replacement battery for my Dell Mini 9 from Amazon. (I'd run the Mini's battery down an average of about 1.3 times a day for the past two years...no wonder it was only lasting about 40 minutes, even with cpufrequtils throttling back the CPU!) The stock battery is a tiny 3-cell model; the replacement is a comparatively massive 8-cell lump that doubles as a keyboard-elevating back foot. Only been running on the new battery for about two hours, and first time on battery power since I charged it, but the reports from XFCE power manager are encouraging, considering even when the stock battery was new, it would only last about 3 hours.

And after 2 weeks and a couple of problems, my Asus Eeepc 1015PE arrived !!
It's son little...and cute...and light...i'm in love !!
I'm charging it now, but meanwhile I'm thinking of getting rid of Windows and installing #!, and not making a partition, but i don't know if I will loose my warranty. And I'm thinking of exchanging drives also, put on my new eeepc the SSD and on my Mac the HDD that came with my netbook, but there is no way to open it (at least I'm not able to discover it).
Anyway, I'm gonna read the papers that came with it and let's see if I find info about the warranty.
Cheers #! community !!

You might look into using Clonezilla [http://clonezilla.org/] to make an image of the installed Windows drive before installing #! (Actually, it's a pretty handy tool to have about in any event.)
That way, if you do have to return it, nothing really lost. I have no idea how the law is written in Spain, but in the US, installling Linux voids the warranty. And Steve Blamer, CEO of Microsoft, is personally notified so he can go kick a puppy and blame it on "those Linux Commies."

But it seems that there's not a Win7 version, so what do I have to do, install linux and run it from there?
And another problem I have is that I create with unetbooting a usb bootable drive with #! and it always starts Win7 instead of from the usb although I have changed the preferences on the BIOS. It's driving me crazy.
EDIT:
I installed #! finally after making a recovery disk. Now I'm battling against WiFi. And it seems that i'm loosing. Even when I connect the ethernet cable does not have internet.

Why don't you make a new thread with this request, just so it gets the attention it deserves -- there's a couple guys here that are real fine with solving wireless issues.

Well, it's just that I'm used to click on an icon and it searches all the wifi networks and I select one and put the password, and now I open the network utility where I can see multiple options to add my wireless network and I don't know hot to and where to add my network.
Maybe it's too silly to start a new thread >.<

It's not silly -- this http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ble-today/ is silly. Really, though, ask...

Hahaha !! OK then, I'll start a new topic !
