Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

I do not get it. Create 2 files edit and broadcom-sta.conf?

I guess I should insert it for the file:
/etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf ?

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

No luck at all.
Now I don't even have a wireless entry in networkmanager right-click.

interestingly, when I run lspci -vnn i get:

 04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01)
    Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM4311 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller [103c:1364]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
    Memory at d5100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
    Kernel driver in use: wl

so wl is in use, but it's not working...

output from lsmod:

[   10.177490] wlan%d: 5.100.82.112 driver failed with code 21

The %d should be 0 or 1.

Can you remove file

rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

It will be rebuilt during next boot.

Then reboot.

Comment this line in /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf

install wl /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install wl $CMDLINE_OPTS

and it will work ( I hope )

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

One thig that you can do is open Synaptic Package Manager, then type in the search box "bcm4311" and will appear some packages related to the broadcom cards, then install firmware-b43-installer and reboot. Now you will be able to use your wifi card. Note: you'll need to have the non-free in the debian official repository big_smile

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

Four packages appear and they are all installed...

Package                                                                         Installed version
firmware-b43-installer                                                    4.150.10.5-4
broadcom-sta-modules-2.6.39-bpo.2-amd64                 5.100.82.112-3
broadcom-sta-common                                                  5.100.82.112-3
broadcom-sta-source                                                     5.100.82.112-3+2.6.39-3~bpo60+1

NOTE: I've disabled testing before i run synaptic search

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

Perhaps because of all the stuff you made it before, something is missing, the same happen to me with my bcm4313, i search on the internet and find a very complex solution, so I ignored it (I'm a little lazy to read hehehe). Then I just look up in the Synaptic Package Manager somenthing for my card and I found a package, I installed and everything works fine. Try a reinstallation of #! and then try only the stuff I just told you big_smile

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

I thought of it too...

I reinstalled #!, but this time I had a wired connection during the install...

Now when I log in, i have both wireless network cards, but I can't enable the wireless...

here is the output form iwconfig:

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

If you didn't have the driver, there would be no iface to see in iwconfig (wlan0 and wlan1 simply wouldn't show up). When you say you can't enable wireless, does that mean the network icon doesn't let you select a network to connect to?

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

Found this:

I have an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820T, which has the BCM43225 chip (it uses
the same driver as the BCM4311). I had tried downgrading to the older
Broadcom 5.60 driver without success. However Giulio's workaround also works
for me. I need to remove the acer-wmi module or wi-fi just doesn't work,
however it will immediately connect once this module is disabled. So I'm not
sure if this is a separate issue unique to Acer laptops or what?

So, blacklist acer-wmi and try again smile

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

Your card should be supported out-of-the-box by b43 according to http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/D … ed_devices (with wl as an alternative). Probably you just need to tell network-manager to use wlan1 instead of wlan0. I don't know how to do this sad but I do know in wicd you can easily do this from the Preferences screen. smile

Your card should be supported out-of-the-box by b43 according to http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/D … ed_devices (with wl as an alternative). Probably you just need to tell network-manager to use wlan1 instead of wlan0. I don't know how to do this sad but I do know in wicd you can easily do this from the Preferences screen. smile

Both of the wireless cards are disabled. I have two options, one for wlan0 and one for wlan1

If you didn't have the driver, there would be no iface to see in iwconfig (wlan0 and wlan1 simply wouldn't show up). When you say you can't enable wireless, does that mean the network icon doesn't let you select a network to connect to?

Enable wireless on right click menu does not work...

On left click, both wireless network cards (Broadcom and Intel Pro) are disabled, with text: wireless is disabled

Re: Broadcom wireless not working in statler 2011-12

Lets try without network-manager:

sudo invoke-rc.d network-manager stop
pkill nm-applet

edit /etc/network/interfaces to contain this:

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
        wpa-ssid xxxxxxxxx
        wpa-psk yyyyyyyy

auto wlan1
iface wlan1 inet dhcp
        wpa-ssid xxxxxxx
        wpa-psk yyyyyyy

replace xxxxxx with your ssid
            yyyyyyy with your keyphrase
then

sudo ifdown wlan1
sudo ifup wlan1

Hmm,

i kill nm, put the followong code in /etc/network/interfaces

# auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
        wpa-ssid telenet-D5F41
        wpa-psk RpTuPQ43pZJd

auto wlan1
iface wlan1 inet dhcp
        wpa-ssid ETNC
