VMware upgrade - x not working anymore

Hi,

After upgrading VMware to 4.0.1 after the update was released this week, my whole X environment (x.org 1.10.4) does not work anymore: it gives error messages about x-server dependencies not met (more then a full page of them). When I try to install via the command line with apt-get (even with force) it does not want to install the packages. If I want to install nvdia drivers it complains about dependancies and if I try to install xorg it also complains (about different) dependancies, but it appears as if VMware did something strange as I now have both nvdia and xorg which do not want to upgrade or remove as a result of dependancies belonging to the other Xserver...

How can i get all xorg and nvidia packages removed, and reinstall the closed source nvidia one (for maximum performance, as I usually work on 2 screens and a lot OpenOffice or PPT (fromVMware) presentations for my work).

Thanks in advance!

(running Statler with the liquorix kernel (2.6.36-2) on a 64bit system)

Hi.
Try these commands

sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then reboot. And post here your source.list

Re: VMware upgrade - x not working anymore

^^ That's not good if we figure out it's *not* an xorg.conf problem.  The better trick is to do this:

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

@OP: Please post the error messages you get when you try to install the packages.  Use the <code> tags when you're posting the output/errors.

Re: VMware upgrade - x not working anymore

Sorry for the late response. Needed the system urgently, therefore I switched the laptop to a fedora spin (Kororaa) (which works slower (it's KDE based, so no explanation needed why...) then #! which is a petty, but works directly without these problems, which is nice)
