Sound, video, Ethernet and wireless all work just fine. Smooth install. Plan to get a ZIF PATA SSD for this soon.
I'm definitely new to this whole thing but I just didn't like Ubuntu, Fedora or a few other distros. Too heavy for my machine.
Glad to be here.

Opening Chromium, VLC and other programs are much quicker than with the other distros I mentioned. This machine is a 1 Ghz Core2 Solo with 2GB RAM. (max) I'm using the OpenBox environment. Finally got some life breathed into this.

Welcome! from a fellow D430 user. I've been using #! on this little computer for about two years now and loving it. I think everything worked well "out of the box," as they say. But let me know if there are any D430 that I may be able to help with.

Very cool. Do you still have the original 4200 rpm drive or did you upgrade? Its fairly quick on #! but I can image it would fly on an SSD.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get more than 2GB of RAM on this machine!

Welcome to #!
If you're impressed now, just wait until you install it on a new multi-core 64-bit CPU machine!

Sounds like you're doing just fine.

I've got the 80GB / 4200 rpm drive. It's fast enough for the kinds of stuff I do. Space is more of a problem than speed for me. An 128GB SSD would cost about the same as what I paid for the computer...unfortunately.
