Headphone issues.

Hello there. I am having issues with headphones, the particular problem being that when I use them the front speakers continue to play, and there does not seem to be any way to turn them off without cutting off sound to the headphones as well. I went into alsa and turned "front" all the way down, but this usually cuts off most if not all of the headphone volume. This seems to be a common problem when running ubuntu on sony vaio laptops (admittedly, not the best choice for running any alternative distro) but I was never able to find any helpful answers on the ubuntu forums when I was running vanilla ubuntu.

Any thoughts?

Re: Headphone issues.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. I used the mixer already but it seems that lowering the volume in any of the specific hardware "master", "speakers", "headphones"... will remove sound from everything.

Please help. I want to privately listen to stuff without having sound come-out of my laptop speakers.

Laptop:
MSI VR330 AMD ATHLON 64X2 Nvidia GeForce Go 6100. 2gb Ram.

Re: Headphone issues.

Have you tried unplugging & re-plugging the headphones?  Apparently a lot of laptops are set up so that the internal speaker is on if speakers are plugged in when the GUI starts up.  My netbook is one of these; the speaker is software switched when headphones are plugged in after I've logged into the GUI, regardless of the window manager.

Re: Headphone issues.

Hi. Thank you for your reply.

Yes i have tried that solution too but it does not work. My problem is similar to the first poster and there are many others having the same problem when I did a search about "headphones" and "speakers".

I do not have the same problem with Xubuntu (or any other Ubuntu variant).

I love crunchbang... it is by far the fastest Ubuntu-based distro by far. And the community is great!
