Basic LMDE 2011.09 - Debian 'testing' - with the Fluxbox WM installed.
Using a fluxbox-style (theme) ... I made myself.
... *is becoming a fluxbox-guru
With a fluxbox-style you get the fb-taskbar (panel), right-click menu, fb-slit, and window decorations.
Simple, but it gives me everything I want from Fluxbox. (with transparency and icons in the menu)
Also, configured the Conky to be just as simple and to match the fb-style.
For those interested in Fluxbox - I made the fb-style with assistance from a guide, I found here > http://tenr.de/howto/style_fluxbox/style_fluxbox.html
You can find almost everything you may want to know about Fluxbox and Blackbox here > http://lostinthebox.com Forums

@hhh: beautiful wallpaper & colorscheme - love the dark-green background
This was on page one and somehow I missed it, I hate it when that happens. And I thank you!
Some urxvt switches, set cmw window borders to 0, a simple conky clock, Courier 10 Pitch to keep the turn-of-the-century vibe...
Loving these tunes, Solo! - , -

@vrkalak
I'm jealous of your skills.
Very, very cool. If I could just focus long enough to learn something I could be a guru of something too. Alas, I received an acoustic guitar for my birthday and it is enormously distracting. Where can I get your new style? I'm going over to Lost In The Box to look for it.

Love the choice of colours
Thanks. I posted the colorscheme on the Xdefaults thread if you're interested.

Aw shucks, thanks ... [faintly bows] ... just a little something I threw together
(after many hours of hard work - configuring/compiling, add this, remove that - typing my little fingers to down nubs)
But, at least, the music was good.

I was on "borderless mode" in cwm for a while as well. Pretty usable on a netbook since most of my windows usually end up fullscreen.
Quite curious about your Xdefaults colors. Mind posting the scheme, if possible. I have a soft-spot for typewriter style fonts.
Lovely wallpaper. Mind sharing? I'd love to have a go at customizing a term bg and colorscheme to go with that.
Good to know you got the messages.

Reminds me of my old Vista setup some years ago.

Has been years - but I am trying this linux thing again.
Managed to re-create my bsd desktop.
Everything had to be configured from scratch - what a pain.
Even basic stuff like acpi, multimedia keys (!), sound and so on. Still a lot of stuff to do - not sure I will invest the time.
BTW, sound is awful with alsa, is there OSS?

Well, you're running Arch
OSS is available, check the Arch wiki for specifics.

Hmm.
Should I do a debian netinstall?
I just don't want to configure keys and basic OS functions.
Thanks for the info.

The first comment was down to configuring everything, that's what Arch prides itself on. Dunno how the Debian netinstall differs, haven't tried it yet, except for once in VB, whereupon I ran screaming.
udev should have picked up all those media buttons. It's probably due to you using a less than mainstream wm (cwm, right?). I guess OpenBSD, since it has cwm built in (does it? I think it does), has that sorted out. To test, install xev, run it in a terminal window, then start hitting the media keys. You should start getting output like
KeyRelease event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x2000001,
root 0xa7, subw 0x0, time 19464683, (54,670), root:(721,686),
state 0x0, keycode 123 (keysym 0x1008ff13, XF86AudioRaiseVolume), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: FalseThe bolded part is the key value. If you're getting that kind of output, it's a matter of adding stuff to a config file. If not, something is wrong, i which case, we can troubleshoot. You can also try to pass the acpi_osi=linux parameter to the bootline.

@perpetual and @Benny: The netinstall is indeed different. It automates the stuff when you install e.g. X it will pull all necessary packages. You do not have to configure everything manually like in Arch if you do not want to.
