Upon booting up, display resolution and other settings are not saved.

Connected to my #! machine, I have a high resolution monitor. The default resolution makes everything too small and hard to read, so I changed it to a lower resolution. However, whenever I boot up the computer, the resolution is back to the default. It gets extremely annoying to have to change the resolution whenever I start up my computer, so I searched the internet for a solution. The only solution I found was to change the resolution as root, to no avail. Other settings, such as the keyboard layout are also not saved. And when using the Lynx web browser, and I tell it to always/never allow cookies from a domain, it only does so until I reboot. All other Lynx preferences work the same way and also get reset. This is really getting on my nerves and I'm desparate for a solution. Please help me!

Bump after 10 hours? roll

Check if you have an Xorg file:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and if yes, post it here, using [ code ] tags

Re: Upon booting up, display resolution and other settings are not saved.

There is no xorg.conf file in /etc/X11. However, I am somewhat inclined to believe that anything having to do with X is irrelevant to my problem, since this issue persists even when booting without a GUI.

Sorry to have asked tongue

you have surely checked dmesg already, and the permissions of your partitions/folders, also if there are udev errors during boot.

Re: Upon booting up, display resolution and other settings are not saved.

Running dmesg provides lots of information, I know not neither where nor what to look for. I am also unlearned in the ways of checking partition/folder permissions, if you could teach me how that'd be great. When booting up, I can't recall seeing any udev errors, but I'll keep an eye out next time I start it up. Or is there some sort of log that I can look up?
