Re: [SOLVED] X isnt loading, what did i do wrong

If you installed the nvidia driver from the debian repos like it appears you did, it might help to install nvidia-kernel-dkms, that will build a kernel module for you. If you have issues and need to rebuild the kernel module later, you can just reinstall that dkms package. There is also a howto on using nvidia drivers from the debian stable repos with statler here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic/11900

I would say your first mistake was not using the forum's search engine.

ok so i did what was said in that link

now x loads when i power on my laptop, but when i log off it doesnt work
basically when i try to log off the computer stalls i bit goes blank and flashes the nvidia logo and after a couple mins x does load which then sends me direct to terminal

and also now my conky is all messed up, everything is misaligned and also bigger

The conky is prolly to do with the DPI being set higher, or the resolution being changed. As far as the drivers are concerned, there's a certain order you need to install the driver packages, which may be to blame for the inability to shutdown.
