installer crash

I'm trying to set up an old laptop to run crunchbang with the sole purpose of playing my mp3's from an external hard drive.

I've tried it as a live CD and it did exactly what i wanted....just slowly cos it was running off the cd.
I want to install crunchbang to the laptop hard drive so it runs quicker but everytime i run the installer from the main menu, it crashes.

i managed to get a copy of puppy installed but it always needed the cd in to boot properly and seemed over-complicated so went back to crunchbang.  I've formatted the hdd to ext3 but still wont install.

the laptop is a compaq presario 1200.  156mb ram & 5gb hdd.

i freely admit i'm a complete noob with linux but really dont want to go back to windows with this project cos it's way over the top for what i wanted.

help would be gratefully received

Re: installer crash

>156mb
I think that might be your problem. I can't find the minimum requirements for #! but I know that it's 256mb for Ubuntu.
