It seems that if I use the 'Setting->User Interface Setting', tint2 only change some icons, it will stick to its original icons for apps like chromium, vlc, terminal.
I have tried to search all the chromium.png in my computer, and replace those with what I want, it seems that that does not work. But I really do not think this is elegant at all, even if it works. Is it possible to specify the path of an icon tint2 use?
I did some searching on the web, and people (openbox, tint2) blame each other for the problem. Is there a solution?

Unfortunately I don't think there is, I filed some bug reports some time ago, first with tint2 who responded (they were actually very helpful) that it was the window manager's job to sort that stuff out... so i filed a bug re openbox and they were much less helpful with a "not our problem" response
its just a case of tracking down the files and changing them (updating the program will most likely overwrite these changes so you'll have to do it again)
its not just tint2, most panels do not display custom icons for some programs, including gnome panel (im currently looking at the standard firefox logo at the bottom of my screen when i have a custom icon set which changes it everywhere else, well almost... firefox icon is standard in the firefox window decoration)

yeah, I've been struggling with the same thing...I guess it's just certain programs that aren't standards compliant when it comes to that sort of thing...anyone know a quick workaround? The tint2 guys are right though...if you enable window icons you'll see the same ones in openbox that are in the tint2 panel (both the ones that match your theme and those that don't)

Guys, I just had the similar issues with Icedove and Iceowl, the Debian unbranded versions of Mozilla Thunderbird and Sunbird. It seems that the Mozilla apps (and other apps like chrome/chromium) don't like to play ball.
The file I had to change to update the icon for icedove was taipan:/usr/lib/icedove/chrome/icons/default/default.xpm
I don't have firefox installed, but I imagine it would be something like that, replacing icedove with firefox obviously.
You may or may not want to make a small startup script that replaces the icon on boot to play with updates, etc.
If you have noticed this notice you may have noticed that this notice is not worth noticing

I changed the following icons for Gimp, Firefox, Thunderbird and Terminator
Don't know if all are neccesary (probably not)
# GIMP
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/gimp.svg
# FIREFOX
/opt/firefox/chrome/icons/default/
/opt/firefox/icons/mozicon128.png
# TERMINATOR
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/terminator.svg
/usr/share/pixmaps/terminator.png
# THUNDERBIRD
/opt/thunderbird/chrome/icons/default/
sed 's/stress/relaxation/g'
