OB - Menus and Submenu

Hi I have just installed Madbox which is Ubuntu base + OB WM.

I am very interested in OB...Considering the lightness and combining with Ubuntu core makes it very responsive..

Reg Madbox , I notice it is a minimal Installation with Adesk bar , Conky and Lxpanel...

I just have a very basic doubt - Suppose I go in for a standalone openbox installation..I want to know how to bring in menu (Accessories.Network,Office,System etc) (left most button in the panel where u have the distro's icon) , Submenus (eg leafpad, libre, mozilla, gparted etc) and icons integrated with a panel similar to a GNOME/KDE DE ? In fact this was keeping me away from OB , but I just want to learn considering how beautiful Madbox is..

Does the Panel bring in all these menus and submenus or is dependent on GNOME (Gtk) or KDE (Qt) core installation modules?

I hate the traditional black  wallpaper/ right click bare bone menu of openbox and I want a beautiful desktop with large Icons and colourful menus. In fact not too overly simplistic..

I dont want to compromise beauty at the cost of speed ....(maybe it is the opposite for OB users!)

Re: OB - Menus and Submenu

Lxpanel will give you the sort of menu you are looking for and is not very heavy.
You will probably want something like nitrogen to set your wallpaper, as to the wallpapers themselves you are of course on your own  big_smile

There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.

Re: OB - Menus and Submenu

Thanks jeffreyC ..

I have a small confusion ---I was thinking that LXpanel gives the effects which I wanted...Then what exactly is "Adesk bar"?

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/11/ades … or-ubuntu/

To clarify what I think is the Panel:rolleyes:

There is a broad Strip in the top of the screen which has the following

Starting from Left

1. Madbox Icon --- Which when clicked throws up Accessories, System , Office,Administration etc)..When I roll the cursor over, a submenu for each appears like thhe usual Linux desktop (gnome/kde/xfce/lxde etc)

2.Folder Icon
3. Recently opened Appication Icon

On the far right the following

1. Network Applet
2. Volume
3.Time
4.Power

When I right click in the panel a submenu of preferences takes me to a new screen called Adesk Launcher
where u have options for positioning the panel , including apps in the Icon, display the classic LX menu etc...Is this not the panel?

When I right click somewhere in the desktop other than the panel , the classic OB Menu appears which has been tweaked and consists conky , compositing , Reconfigure , Conky , Wallpaper , Theme etc

Menu.xml allows to control the OB Menu as usual ..

What is Adesk Bar?!! Is it to be used only with Ubuntu?

Re: OB - Menus and Submenu

Yes in MadBox that is ADeskBar not Lxpanel, I do not know if it will work on other than Ubuntu.
It may work in Debian, but is hard to get now, as ADcomp's website seems to be down.
