Are old forum post solutions still valid?

What about the forum posts and solutions that were discussed when #! was ubuntu based? Are the solutions still valid now? I understand ubuntu itself is debian based but want to ensure that following old forum solutions will not screw up my system.

Re: Are old forum post solutions still valid?

If they are Ubuntu-specific then generally they will not be valid. Also the fact that the problems are old (Ubuntu Jaunty) further invalidates them.

I would stay away from everything that has to do with Ubuntu PPA and alike. Make it a habit of looking at the course of action before following a guide. You should be able to identify what will work and what not prior to destroying your system.
