Intro

Hi all.

I recently installed #! Xfce on my desktop and was impressed with the speed and the ability to have Chromium installed out of the box. I'm considering installing it on my laptop, which currently runs Ubuntu 10.10. I'll probably be asking some questions around here to facilitate that migration.

Re: Intro

Welcome aboard! It's an easy transition from Ubuntu, but you're in the right place for a great group of people.

Welcome...if you noticed an improvement in performance on your desktop, I bet the laptop will feel even more amazing!  I'm running #!  (openbox & tint2) on a netbook, and it's so much faster that other distros / desktop managers.

Re: Intro

Hum... this "Ubuntu" that you speak of sounds interesting. Could you tell me more about it?

Nah. Just kidding. Welcome to #! and to the forums. smile

I'm in the unique situation of having a laptop with better specs than my desktop, mostly because my desktop's the older of the two. However, I've noticed a difference in performance between Xfce and GNOME even on the laptop, so I figure #! should be a massive improvement.

Re: Intro

yup, the Liquorix kernel makes a huge difference, IMO.  Also fewer programs running in the background by default.  I don't bbelieve that Libre-Office comes by default but make sure to get that instead of open-office (and if Ooo is installed do a apt-get purge ...not just a remove/autoremove before installing Libre) - it opens about 2 seconds faster for me.
