Hi people, This is Sam from India. I have been in search of a Minimalistic distro, tried everything from ubuntu to slackware but found a quirk in every single one of them
, then i came to learn about #!, it was running OpenBox [my fav WM] by default
, so i went ahead and downloaded the 64bit Statler, installed it on my Acer 5742 [core i3 2.4GHz, 2gigs DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD graphics and Broadcom wireless and BT] Everything, except wireless
was working out of the box, which i had no trouble in setting up after a quick search on the forums and after tweaking OB, tint2 and conky to my liking, now I have a perfect LINUX box [thereby ending a 2yr distro hopping spree
] I owe it all to this forum and its helpful and cordial members.
Thank you for this wonderful Distro and all your help. Keep it coming people.

I'm with you there...I was also a compulsive distro hopper...now I'm jonesing to try KDE 4.6, but at the same time wondering if it's worth the effort, just so I can switch bacn to a regular #! setup afterward...because I know that's where I'm headed.

Welcome Sam. I'm with you on what you said.
bobrossw - the best KDE i have used is openSuse. Worth a try, but I wanted something more in tune with how I think and maybe #! is that?

Thank you all for the warm welcome
@bobrossw - i would agree with RichAustin, give OpenSuse a whirl for KDe or give arch a try
@RichAustin - Thank you
@Anonymous - Thank you
@merelyjim - Thank you, phew! thought i was the only one
Thank you for that thread link
It's not gonna be easy but after giving it quite a thought and the fact that i have stuck to #! for about a week now
I think its time to give my poor HDD some rest and even if I "Have to" go distro hopping again will do so virtually
and I also have decided to give upon windoze once for all and go fully #!-ed, maybe this weekend.

Welcome to the asylum, explorersam.
@merelyjim: Careful when replying to posts like the one from "jady3" - check the user profile first. "Seattle Town Car Service"? Smells like a spambot to me.

Odds are in your favor, but if I were a female Pakastani national posting to an English-language forum, I'd be Onion-routing to a fair-thee-well...

yea buddy you have the disease too. Funny how when we're in the thick of it a whole week seems like a long haul. I'm beside myself, been running #! and nothing else for about three weeks. Without all the installs, partitioning, and multi-booting I seem to suddenly have the time I need to actually "use" my computer now. Go figure.
Welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard!
Thank you are_you_root. I have been dual booting with windows just for playing delta force and truck_sim
but now am addicted more to nethack and bsdgames that i find them more interesting than shooting or driving
( and i find myself more productive than spend hours of gaming
)
three weeks is cool.... i have decided to stick with #! for a long time too and with such a community i sure i will
