Awesomewm help

hello folks well i been reading up on Awesomewm seems its nice tiling manager.Well i have an old laptop laying spare what would be a great base system for it to run on.All i need on it would be a browser with flash . Xchat . torrent client and a notepad oh and a terminal.Is there any small distros based on this with bare minium.Maybe theres some install scripts out there that can help me out thanks for any info.Iam still learning linux so yeah me  a noob lol give me time i will be coding the matrix smile

why not take a debian net install cd, install the minimum (no DE) and then install the few things you want with apt-get? you could also use a crunchbang live cd to pull some nice configs after the installation. Because i think if you know exactly what you want (as you seem to do) it might be easiest to just install that on a plain system. obviously that can not only be done with debian but any distro offering kind of a minimal/net install (arch, ubuntu, slack ...?)

thanks luc for advice i may try that out just wonder when squeeze will hit 100% stable.I had a mess around with arch never tried slack so i think i will have a nice busy week as stuck home with broken ancle

Unlucky.

I'd have to agree that Debian is the way to go: the repositories and the vast numbers of people using deb/ubuntu means that any problem you might have, someone else has solved. Then if you want to go down a different distro route, at least you know what you're going to need to get started
