I want to delete the factory partition on my laptop and add the space to my /home partition, but it doesn't show up in Gparted...Help?

Re: deleting factory partition

what kind of partition do you expect you to be there (i mean what does show up in gparted and what should)?
if you have a partition an the same drive as your /home or / and want to include it, it might be necessary to do so from a live cd, as the partitions need to be unmounted to be resized (afaik).

I'm not sure...Basically, my CrunchBang, swap, and /home partitions show up, and nothing else...I remember seeing the factory partition at some point, but I'm not sure how.  I've tried using Gparted with three different live CDs for three different distros, and I get nothing.

I know it's there because there's 7 gigs unaccounted for on my 80 gig HDD...And, with an HDD that small, I'd like to salvage every gig I can.

Re: deleting factory partition

Are you taking into account actual HD size? Explained here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte
For example my 500GB drive shows up as 465GB in gparted.

Re: deleting factory partition

If your problem was not the dfference between gigabyte and gibibyte, i still don't understand what a factory partition is?

It's the restore partition. I have one too; when you buy a laptop / computer with Windows pre-installed, some vendors don't include recovery cd's anymore but use partitions instead. In case you mess up your system, all you do is reboot and press F2 for example and you'll boot into the recovery partition to restore Windows to factory default.

Now on topic: I see mine in Gparted. Did you try a liveCD of Gparted? I can even boot it through grub if I want to hmm

I haven't, but that's what I think I'll do...If it doesn't work, I think I'll just leave it alone.

Re: deleting factory partition

My laptop has a 500GB drive but I can only see 250GB of it; the remainder is the factory/restore partition. It doesn't really bother me that I can't use it but would be nice to have it available.
Please post if you manage to 'rescue' it.
