I was able to successfully install Statler 10 Alpha, from Windows XP, with a separate /home directory a couple days ago but decided to reinstall it fresh for various reasons (one being printer installation troubles).
I did almost everything the same from the first time during the install process, but now after I select normal CrunchBang (not the recovery mode), I just got left hanging with the blinking underscore.
Then I tried to reinstall it again, same problem.
Then I booted the Live ubuntu 10.04 disk and futzed around, and got the printer to install.
Then I tried to boot up Statler with no disk in it, and then I got the following output:
[ 1.398552 ] [ drm: drm_fill_in_dev ] *ERROR* Cannot initialize the agpgart module.
[ 1.398604 ] DRM: Fill_in_dev failed.
When I select Recovery Mode, I get the following output in the terminal:
Begin: Waiting for root file system...

Any ideas what may be the cause (or what I can do to fix this)? The only post on this topic explained that the poster was able to install everything with default partitions, but not with a separate /home directory. I haven't tried this yet, but I will next.

Thank goodness I'm not the only person experiencing this problem.
Still nothing for me yet. But did you try this...
I often have problems around that area, usually with a message about Bluetooth (which I don't have). Do you have a USB NIC? If so, try disconnecting that.
That was the only suggestion given to me, but did not work. May, possibly, work for you.

I don't usually get a message about Bluetooth.
What I did do is the following:
1) Tried to do a fresh install with everything except swap on 1 partition. This caused my computer to mention that I could make changes to /sd5, but the computer wouldn't know about the changes until I reboot, which is an error. I was given a choice to ignore or cancel, and I chose ignore. A new screen popped up and it made me go back to the guided partition screen.
2) Then I chose to cancel, and all of a sudden it worked. I now have a working Statler again, with no separate home directory. I want a separate /home directory though, so I will try again.

So you were able to boot the OS without a separate partition, correct? (/home).
I wonder if it is, in any way, possible, after you have installed the OS to then separate the partitions? I will look into this, or maybe someone on here will know...?

After some reading, I realize that in my first install of CrunchBang, I set up LVM, which I mistakenly thought was synonymous with separate partitioning. My subsequent install was without LVM and works just fine. As a new user of Linux, and after cursory research on what LVM is, I don't feel a need for it on my personal home system.
