Crunchbang 9.04 no wireless

Yo, after hours of googling and what not, I've finally decided to come here and chat with you good crunchbangians. My wireless card is an Atheros AR5001 and apparently #! is having a hell of a time utilizing it. ifconfig wlan0 up returns:

wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device.

I've tried installing the madwifi drivers to no avail. But the real weird thing is, WICD picks up various wireless connections (including my own) and I can start connecting to it, sometimes it'll get past the authentication (WEP) and hang on obtaining IP and sometimes it just rejects my password all together. So, any input/ideas/etc are all greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Edit: I apologize, too used to ubuntu 9.10 lol. Anyways, I'm on #!  9.04

Edit #2: Installed the alpha release and my wireless works right off the bat. So fuck yeah, job well done devs.

Re: Crunchbang 9.04 no wireless

I have Atheros AR5001 card as well. It works very well with #! Statler. No need to install extra drivers or anything.
So... if you can't solve this on 9.04, you could give Statler a try.

Re: Crunchbang 9.04 no wireless

Hey, welcome to the forums Saint_!
I've got an Atheros card too, and it was slightly flakey with 9.04 (same IP issue you described), and like you it works pretty good with Statler.
For the record, it's probably the transition from April 2009 drivers to, April 2010 drivers... In that time the debian guys probably fixed things.
Either that or the package wasn't included by default in 9.04...
And you should know, #! is developed by corenomial, and him alone!

Re: Crunchbang 9.04 no wireless

Yeah I upgraded to Statler and everything is working fine. I love how lightweight #! is and openbox + tint2 makes for a sexy DE, plus #! is extremely customizable which is great. And you're saying only one guy develops crunchbang? Damn that's extremely impressive, the man has my utmost respect then.
