hey there,
i dream a lil' about creating my own openbox/gtk theme.. have anyone here any useful transferable experience? .] i mean both know-how and tools.. i have no idea about creating such a thing (about the creative process itself x)

best way to start is find a theme and edit it.
Then check out all the possibilities in the top link @annonymous gave as you'll find some extra things to play with.

For GTK themes, I agree with Tawan - find a theme you kinda like and edit its gtk-2.0/gtkrc file. I'd recommend starting with Philip's excellent CrunchBang and CrunchBang-Light-Gray themes, as they are both extremely well documented with inline comments.
